Internships in Dijon, France

Groupe Ecole Supérieure de Commerce Dijon Bourgogne

Groupe Ecole Supérieure de Commerce Dijon Bourgogne (ESC-D) is a leading institution in France for graduate business education. Through a cooperative arrangement between ESC-D and the Pamplin College of Business, a limited number of summer internship positions are available to superior Pamplin students.

Requirements:

  1. Students must have strong skills in the French language. Positions assignments will depend on the level of fluency a student has achieved. Most positions require an advanced level of French language skills.
  2. The program is open to advanced undergraduates and graduate students. Upper division standing with a major in business, a major in French with a minor in business, or a major in international studies with a business focus is required.
  3. Students must prepare an application package that includes resumes in both French and English and letters in both languages explaining the student’s interest, qualifications, and the type of internship position that is desired (e.g., accounting, finance, etc.).

Admission, Status and Fees:

  1. The Pamplin College of Business, together with the Department of Foreign languages, will nominate students for participation. ESC-D will evaluate these nominations and determine if suitable internship positions can be provided.
  2. Students will enroll in 6 credits during one summer session and will pay tuition and fees set by Virginia Tech for students participating in exchange programs. No fees will be paid directly to ESC-D for instruction or supervision.
  3. Students will be issued with a “convention de stage” (internship contract) which is a legal document binding the student, the company and ESC-D. The student will therefore be legally registered at ESC-D.  In case of accident during working hours or travel, students will be covered by ESC-D liability insurance policy.

(Students need to have private health insurance: this will not be provided by the company).

Other Aspects of the Internship Program

  1. The deadline for application to Pamplin is the first week of spring semester. Applications must include the requirements mentioned above as well as a current unofficial transcript. Students selected for nomination will be notified by the end of January.
  2. Application packages for nominated students will be sent to ESC-D in late January. ESC-D will notify Pamplin of selected students by March 1..
  3. The duration of the internships will be approximately 10 weeks, from the 3rd week Mayt to the end of July.
  4. ESC-D will identify appropriate internships according to students’ interest and major.
  5. The “convention de stage” contract will state that companies are required to pay students 30% of the French minimum wage in effect during the internship period. This would be approximately 376 euros per month.
  6. An English speaking ESC-D faculty member will academically supervise each student.
  7. French language support will be provided to students who require it, either as an intensive week prior to the start of the internship and/or as regular weekly classes, accompanied by online work, in June and July. Students will not receive official transcripts for this work and should not expect Virginia Tech to accept transfer credit.
  8. ESC-D will provide transcripts in English evaluating the supervised internship performance and the French language course.
  9. Students will be responsible for their travel and room & board costs. Accommodations can be organized with host families, in private residences or in apartments.  Rents range from 250 to 400 EUR per month (accommodations only).
