The European Approach to Management: Study Abroad in France

Courses

Students will receive up to six credits: 3 hours of credit for international management MGT 4314 and 3 hours of credit for study abroad in management MGT 3954. Graduate credit for these courses is also available (with additional requirements).

IT Track students in BIT may substitute 3 credits for their BIT elective course.

Eligibility

Pamplin College of Business undergraduate students

Upper division clearance is required. The Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs must approve exceptions in advance. For details, see http://www.undergrad.pamplin.vt.edu/academic_upperDivision.html

Other students

Non-business students, graduate business students, and students from other universities are also welcome to participate. Graduate credit for these courses is also available (with additional requirements).

Pedagogical Goals

  • Introduce students to the French and European context of business by providing them with analytical tools for the understanding of cultural differences between Europe and North American and between major European countries;
  • Introduce students to the French and European context of information technologies and telecommunication: the institutional context, social uses, the consequences of various technical norms and standards;
  • Permit students, based on their level of French, either to be introduced to the language for practical uses or to improve their proficiency in the language. Coursework will be offered at varying levels based on students' abilities in French;
  • Discover different facets of life in France both in the Paris region as well as in the rest of France through organized and free travel.
